Enthusiasts of all kinds can find a lot of information about the Karmann Ghia online, from what parts they need for restoration and repair as well as clubs to join to converse with other enthusiasts and more. The history of this classic car is by all accounts an interesting one, and along with all of that other information about the Karmann Ghia online you will no doubt find oodles of information about that history.

The iconic car was for the most part a VW Beetle with a different body shell on it; however, it has always been considered to be more of an elegant sports car. This brings up the question of what exactly a sports car is. In this particular instance it was not so much the power or the horsepower; instead it was all about its style. People wanted cars that looked great that were not just functional, durable and reliable, which this car was all of the above. The company already was noted for its quality work, and when this car came out they now could boast that they had the looks to go with it.

Following World War II, Volkswagen had been popular for successfully producing those small and efficient cars for the people like the Beetle. These cars had the reputation of having outstanding reliability. However, as time passed after the war, consumers began needing cars with more elegance and style, which reflected much of the overall changing attitude of the time. The Karmann Ghia was born to satisfy these needs.

What was a bonus for Volkswagen was the fact that the vehicle appealed to two very different groups of people. Many people wanted a high end looking sports car on a Volkswagen budget, and there were those who wanted a beautiful touring car that was durable and reliable. The reliable Beetle chassis along with the shell that was built according to luxury specifications resulted in this history of the Karmann Ghia online. The shell was hand built using methods that were not used anywhere else except for the worlds most luxurious cars.

It just so happened that the new sports car could not go very fast, as it would not reach 100 mph like its competitors, but people were willing to overlook that fact because of its sleek looks and smooth styling. Volkswagen recognized this and played it up by offering ads and commercials that joked about the cars slow speeds, and it worked. The car ended up being produced for a good 18 years, and more than half a million people purchased them. There is even more information about the Karmann Ghia online as well.
